Spelmanite Keshia Knight Pulliam Defends the Legacy of ‘The Cosby Show’

The Cosby Show – we’ve all watched the Huxtables grow out of their sitcom characters and go on to be successful stars, but unfortunately the patriarch of the family can’t seem to catch a break. Since late last year, Bill Cosby has been slammed in the media after over 35 women came forward and accused him of molestation and rape. Several Cosby Show stars have come forward to express either their support or shock over the past several months, including Keshia Knight Pulliam, the former child star who played Rudy Huxtable. In the past she’s told the press “that’s not the man I know,” and in her latest interview with The Grio, Keshia says regardless of the impending cases it shouldn’t affect the legacy of the popular ’80’s sitcom.

The 36-year-old actress says “The Cosby show broke barriers.” “And no matter who you were, you were able to see yourself in us and you were able to see how much more alike we were versus different,” she continued. Naturally Keshia was asked if she feels Bill Cosby’s numerous allegations will affect the show’s legacy, to which she responded “I hope that it hasn’t.” “I can say that, based upon the people that continuously approach me and talk about how it’s profoundly impacted their lives, I don’t feel you can take that back. You can’t take back the impact that it’s had on generations of kids, and it’s CONTINUING to have such a positive impact on them. So I feel like the place that it has in people’s hearts is such a nostalgic part of childhood and beyond, it’s going to be difficult to take back those memories”.

During the interview Pulliam also states she’s never seen the side of him that’s being portrayed in the news today. “That’s just not the man I know,” she expressed. “That’s not who I experienced. I never had that interaction with him, so I can’t speak to it.”
