Howard Confirms Patient Does Not Have Ebola Virus

Howard University officials over the weekend confirmed that one person admitted to Howard University Hospital for treatment of Ebola-like symptoms was not formally diagnosed with the virus. Officials released a statement on Oct. 4, in conjunction with the US Centers for Disease Control.

Howard University Hospital in conjunction with the District of Columbia Department of Health and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has “ruled out” Ebola for the patient at Howard University.

In keeping with infection control protocols and in an abundance of caution, our medical team remains ever vigilant and takes proactive steps to quickly identify, isolate and screen any individual who presents with signs or symptoms of communicable diseases.

No details have been released about the patient by the university or the hospital. It was the first reported case of such symptoms in the Washington-Metropolitan area.
